Palestinian FM calls for boycott of Israeli settlers

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki has urged the international community to boycott products made in Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories and take action against illegal settlements.

In remarks made at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva Tuesday al-Malki said: "We can hear the sound of bulldozers of the Israeli occupation while establishing illegal colonies and settlements and we cannot hear the voices of those defending peace and human rights then we must stop and ask where is the humanity going? where are human rights going?"

"The people of Palestine face systematic terror by Israel the occupying power. The security forces are exercising extrajudicial killings" al-Malki said.

According to Palestinian figures at least 187 Palestinians have been killed since the current uptick in Israeli-Palestinian violence began on Oct. 1 of last year.

Israel for its part says at least 31 Israeli citizens and foreigners have been killed in attacks by Palestinians over the same period.

"l call on all the countries to boycott the settlements and to boycott the products of settlements and to warn of possibility of imposing economic and commercial sanctions on occupying power" he said.

He also called for a ban on Israeli settlers. "They [international community] must not deal directly or indirectly with the occupation system in addition to not allowing the entry of illegal settlers into their countries" he said.

Al Malki added that the UN Security Council must shoulder its responsibilities and adopt a resolution regarding the settlements "since it is the obstacle before the peace and two-state solution".

The Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority on Feb. 17 slammed a recent decision by the U.K. government to outlaw the boycott of goods manufactured on illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

On Feb. 15 the U.K. government forbade British public-sector entities from collectively boycotting goods manufactured on Jewish-only settlements built on confiscated Palestinian land.
