RIYADH 1st March 2016 (WAM) -- Dr. Sameera Khamis Yemeni Minister of Social Affairs and Labour and Vice-President of the Supreme Relief Committee has called on Arab and international organisations to actively contribute in providing more support assistance and humanitarian relief to the people of Yemen.

The Yemeni official made these comments during a meeting with Kenny Gluck Special Envoy for Yemen at United Nations and Henriette Von Kaltenborn Assistant UN Special Envoy to Yemen for Economic Affairs last night in Riyadh stressing that the rebels continue to impose sanctions on the population especially in the city of Taez where people are suffering from extremely difficult humanitarian conditions as a result of more than nine months of sanctions which also prevented the delivery of humanitarian aid and medicine an act which she said is "inconsistent with international human rights laws."

The official Yemeni news agency reported that the two sides discussed providing support and targeted assistance to the poorest in Yemen through social security programmes.

Dr. Khamis also discussed the latest developments on the situation in her country and highlighted the suffering of the Yemeni people from the economic conditions due to the war operations launched by Houthi militias and ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh's coup-supporting rebels in various cities and provinces.
