UAE- Al Bowardi attends celebration to honour military veterans

RAS AL KHAIMAH 29th February 2016 (WAM) - Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi Minister of State for Defence Affairs today attended a ceremony hosted by the Land Forces of the UAE Armed Forces to honour personnel of the 3rd Infantry regiment which took part in the Kuwait liberation battle in 1991.

The ceremony was also attended by H.E. Lt. General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Barbara Leaf US Ambassador to the UAE Major General Mohammed Saleh Al Amri Commander of the Land Forces Abdullah Al Salem Kuwaiti Charge d'affaires diplomats and senior officers.

Major General Al Amri said in a speech that the armed forces will continue to assume their national duties with efficiency and professionalism thanks to the unlimited support of the UAE's wise leadership.

He added that the UAE's armed forces had actively participated in the three stages of the Kuwait liberation operations as part of the Saudi and US-led international coalition.

"The UAE's armed forces were present in the three stages of the liberation operations which included Operation Desert Shield Operation Desert Storm and the final stage Operation Desert Farewell" he said.

He added that the UAE troops were the first to enter Kuwait City as part of the GGC's Peninsula Shield forces. In the later stages the Mechanised Infantry Regiment 33 took part in Operation Desert Fox in 1994 and a mechanised brigade was deployed in Kuwait in 2003.

"25 years after the first operation we salute the heroes of the 3rd Infantry regiment who are still here tell the stories of sacrifice and bravery. We also remember with pride our eight martyrs who died in the battle on 25th February 1991" Major General Al Amri said.
