UAE- Federal Supreme Court hears a number of cases

ABU DHABI 29th February 2016 (WAM) -- The State Security Circuit of the Federal Supreme Court has heard witness statements in the case of four defendants accused of giving money to two terrorist organisations.

The court decided to hold its next session on 21st March to hear the defence witnesses at the request of the defendants' lawyers.

Earlier the public prosecutor in the previous session charged four Arab and North American defendants accusing them of providing funds to the two terrorist organisations The February 17th Martyrs Brigade and Fajr Libya Militias affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood. The prosecutor noted that the accused were aware that the funds were used to finance the terrorist operations.

The defendants as per the charges had cooperated with the two terrorist groups as they provided them with the tools including equipment vehicles radios and night binoculars and raincoats that helped the terrorists achieve their purposes.

In another case the court sentenced the defendant S.M.S. a Gulf national to three years in prison and a fine of AED50000. The convict would be deported after serving his jail term in the country. He was charged with disseminating information with a view to ridicule and damage the reputation of the state symbols. He also ridiculed Emirati martyrs in Yemen describing them as 'cowards' on WhatsApp.
