Morocco- Al Akhawayn University Hosts 350 Snowed in People

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI) housed nearly 350 people on its campus after a strong snowstorm blocked roads and highways this weekend.

University officials opened the doors of the campus to the trapped visitors converting the university's gym into a temporary dormitory to provide them a place to sleep and avoid the freezing cold temperatures. AUI posted two photos on Facebook showing the university's efforts to offer the visitors a 'warm welcome' for the night.

'Al Akhawayn's security technical and provincial services were mobilized to help the stranded tourists' AUI said on its Facebook page. 'The university gymnasium was transformed into a reception room and the university and civil protection officers provided the children and families with a warm room for the night.'

'Ifrane's governor officials and university staff spent the whole day serving and accommodating the stranded tourists as well as a group of urologists who were attending a convention at Al Akhawayn' according to the page.

AUI's students and Facebook fans expressed their pride and pleasure to see their university's officials offer such warm hospitality to the visitors.

Sunday morning the roads were cleared allowing Al Akhawayn's guests to depart safely.
