UN official warns against serious violations of int'l human rights law


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENEVA Feb 29 (KUNA) -- UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein warned on Monday against repercussions of what is described as "indifference" of seriously violating the international human rights law that will lead to catastrophic results.Addressing the 31st session of the UN Human Rights Council he said a gradual dissociation of laws and values which were formed to deal with global threats is a grave concern calling for settling crises which led to an emergence of extremism armed conflicts migrants and asylum seekers.He expressed his regret over "serious" violations of human rights in several conflicts especially in Syria Afghanistan Iraq Libya South Sudan and Yemen whose committers have not brought to justice.He also called for addressing crises and settling disputes in Burundi eastern DR Congo countries around Chad Lake Mali Palestine Somalia South Sudan and Ukraine. These conflicts and catastrophes led to displacements and migrations of many people he said urging countries across the globe to welcome those migrants out of humanitarian values and international cooperation. The official warned that growing hatred towards migrants may deepen racism and discrimination.The session will run until March 24 so as to discuss periodic reports on human rights. (end) ta.nsa.hm
