S. Korea allocates USD500m to help developing nations


(MENAFN) In move mainly targeted at meeting its commitments to the international community, South Korea intends to finance a total of USD500 million in aids to poor countries by 2020.

Of the total fund, USD200 million will be distributed by 2020 to the "Better Life for Girls" initiative revealed by the nation's president during her meeting at the U.N. summit for viable development in 2015.

The scheme aims to tackle gender inequality in education and support girls in 7 developing countries crack their full potential; the nations are Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Nepal, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Mozambique.

Furthermore, more USD200mn will be spent on six countries to assist in evolving their scientific skills, whereas the remaining USD100mn will be assigned for five countries to combat infectious diseases.
