US Stocks End Mixed but Higher for Week


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) US stocks closed mixed Friday, but posted their second consecutive week of gains, buoyed by the recent rise in oil prices.

The three major averages ended the week more than 1.5 percent higher for a second-straight week of gains.

However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended down 57.32 points, or 0.3%, Friday to 16639.97, putting its weekly gain at 1.5% and its year-to-date decline at 4.5%.

The S&P 500 fell 3.65 points, or 0.2%, Friday to 1948.05, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 8.27 points, or 0.2%, to 4590.47.
US-traded crude slipped 0.9% to $32.78 a barrel on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Stoxx Europe 600 rose 1.5% Friday, capping its second week in a row of gains.

The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.9% Friday following a steep drop in the previous session, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gained 2.5% and Japan's Nikkei Stock Average advanced 0.3%.

In currencies, the dollar gained 0.8% against the euro and 0.9% against the yen Friday. The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index, which tracks the dollar against a basket of 16 currencies, rose 0.9%.
