Oman- Indian Embassy to hold annual ITEC Day tomorrow

Indian Embassy will be organising the annual ITEC Day at its auditorium on Monday.

Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme alumni government officials and media representatives will attend the event stated a press release.

ITEC Day provides an opportunity for alumni to interact and learn from their experiences. Fully funded by the Indian government the programme has evolved and expanded over the years. Under ITEC 161 countries in Asia Africa Latin America the Caribbean East Europe as well as Pacific and Small Islands are invited to share India's developmental experience in various fields. Every year India provides over 8000 scholarships for around 300 short medium and long-term courses in 47 institutions.

The ITEC programme covers a diverse range of subjects like agriculture SMEs management English language IT science and technology and biotechnology among others. Over the years the ITEC programme has emerged as a key pillar of India's cooperation with developing countries. The programme facilitates human resources development capacity-building skills upgradation and empowerment.

Training and skill development under the programme contributes directly and significantly towards Oman's goals to develop its human resources and the priority given to diversify its economy through SMEs.

The programme is also open to the private sector in Oman which is also in conformity with the sultanate's policy of job creation through private sector. Under the ITEC programme India had been extending 50 fully funded training scholarships to Oman annually up to 2011-12. Given the popularity in the ITEC programme in Oman the number of ITEC scholarships for the sultanate was increased to 85 in 2012-13 to 125 in 2013-14 and to 150 in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
