Kuwait's positive constructive role earned int'l respect- Official

ROME Feb 27 (KUNA) -- Chief of Kuwait's National Security Bureau Sheikh Thamer Ali Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah stressed the importance of Kuwait's wise policy in Arab geopolitical stability as well as its positive and constructive role in the region that gained it a wide international respect.
Sheikh Thamer made his remarks Saturday to KUNA on the sidelines of his participation in the NATO Defense College Foundation's international conference themed "Arab Geopolitics in Turmoil" in the Italian capital with the participation of top figures experts and researchers in strategic political and security issues.
The conference highlighted Kuwait's balanced role in the region he said adding that the international respect and appreciation to Kuwait is a result of the country's wise policy under the leadership of His Highness the Amir which is based on providing constant help and assistance to those in need in the region.
Sheikh Thamer also pointed out Kuwait's humanitarian stand towards the crises in Syria and Iraq through providing relief assistance and mobilizing international humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the displaced in these countries in addition to hosting three successful donor conferences for the Syrian people.
He also expressed his appreciation to the positive feedback he had received from the participants on his discussion during the conference which addressed the causes and reasons for geopolitical tensions in the region such as the continued Israeli occupation to Palestinian territories the major silence over Israel's violations of the international legitimacy and Israeli continued violations of the UNSC Resolution 242 since the past five decades.

"We need to go back to the Oslo Accord and activate the international legitimacy by implementing UNSC resolution 242" Sheikh Thamer said adding that the time has come for the international community to bear its full responsibilities in order to reach a fair solution for the Palestinian cause which will pave the way for establishing peace and stability in the region.
On the conference discussions regarding the refugees' issue the Kuwaiti official indicated that Arab countries have been hosting hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees decades ago whether in Lebanon Syria or Jordan and it is all due to the Israeli occupation of Palestine calling on international sides to deal jointly with this issues in order to secure caring for these refugees; similar to the Kuwait's donor conferences for the Syrian people.
He also stressed the importance of holding such intellectual conferences by NATO Defense College Foundation as part of the cooperation with countries of the region noting that these conferences also pose a significant opportunity for exchanging different points of view and scientific discussion of strategic nature that help in crystallizing joint perceptions towards the desired solution in order to establish international stability and cooperation.
