(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Doha February 24 (QNA) - The "Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen....Challenges and Prospects for Humanitarian Response" Conference concluded in Doha on Wednesday. At least 90 regional and international humanitarian organizations and more than 150 experts and specialists in relief and humanitarian fields took part in the event organized by Qatar Chary.
The conference sought to unite the visions of partners about the humanitarian crisis in Yemen exchange information promote follow-up mechanisms for determining needs and distribution of aids according to geographic areas and develop action plans and initiatives between partners.
Sessions and workshops focused on assessment of the humanitarian situation in Yemen identification of needs in multiple humanitarian sectors such as education health water and sanitation livelihoods economic empowerment shelter food and protection.
A high-level meeting was held today to review the outcomes launch initiatives partnerships alliances and coordinate between field actors.
Representatives of the organizations and the conference organizers highlighted the event's success to shed light on the humanitarian crisis determine coordination evaluation and follow-up mechanisms of relief efforts and launch initiatives for humanitarian intervention.
Yemeni Minister For Local Administration and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Relief Abdalrguib Fath hailed Qatar's great efforts being exerted by HH the Emir and the Qatari government and people to support Yemen and stand by the Yemeni people in such difficult circumstances.
In his closing address Fath described the conference's aims as humanitarian 'par excellence' and committed to neutrality transparency and responsibility to support about 27 million Yemenis suffering from a real disaster.
He noted in this context that 21 million Yemenis accounting 82 % of the Yemeni population need humanitarian aid of various kinds including 14 million people who need health care.
About 2800000 Yemeni people are displaced in various provinces and more than 3 million children are out of school he said while noting that various educational institutions have been destroyed.
This disaster requires an organized and coordinated action to alleviate negative effects suggested by the conference's outputs he said stressing the Yemeni Higher Committee for Relief's Commitment to international standards in relief efforts based on neutrality accountability and full transparency.
For his part Dr Ahmad Mohamed al-Muraikhi Director of International Development Department of at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed Qatar's firm commitment to stand by the Yemeni people during its humanitarian plight.
Qatar has and will spare no effort in supporting the Yemeni people cause providing humanitarian assistance and supporting all efforts and initiatives aimed at ending their suffering he added.
Helping Yemeni people could be only achieved through cooperation and continuous dialogue as well as the development of technical mechanisms and measures to alleviate humanitarian suffering in accordance with Qatar National Vision 2030 meant to solving crisis and achieving peace security and stability in the world.
Dr. al-Muraikhi praised the significant efforts carried out by the charities in Qatar in alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people in cooperation with international organizations and bodies particularly the UN organizations and programs.
In this context he highlighted the Qatari Government's assistance efforts to cope with this humanitarian crisis in Yemen saying that those efforts are a continuation of Qatar's continuous relief mission embodied through its participation in the aerial campaign and sending ships to Djibouti with humanitarian supplies for Yemen.
He also referred to the field hospital implemented by the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) stressing the ongoing efforts to raise human suffering in Yemen.
To meet the challenges and effects resulting of the massive humanitarian crisis in Yemen a high degree of responsibility and adopting an approach meant to promote cooperation are required he added. (END)
