Qatar- QU launches ninth annual Cultural Village

DOHA: The Student Activities Department at Qatar University (QU) yesterday launched its ninth annual Cultural Village.

The event themed ‘Old is Gold’ will take place from February 28 to March 3 and feature 29 booths at the male and female activities buildings.

It will also include exhibitions and cultural activities such as shows featuring traditional and folkloric customs music and plays.

Dr Khalid Al Khanji Vice-President Student Affairs QU said “Cultures from around the world meet under the umbrella of QU. The event reflects the true meaning of humanity and unity as we aim to engage our students in carrying out a message of peace.

“The event is organised by QU students and combines the spirit of friendship among different nations and cultures that is much need at this time when the world and the region are being affected by conflicts and instability” he added.

Abdullah Al Yafei Associate Vice-President Student life and Services QU said “Enriching the student community is one of our aims. The annual event reflects the future vision of the university in its aim to graduate students who appreciate and extend the message of peace and humanity to the world. By organising such cultural events we are guided by the country’s national development goals and the United Nations’ vision of peace and goodwill among cultures” Al Yafei added.

Salwa Zainal Head Events and Campus Activities Section expressed gratitude to students for their excellent teamwork creativity and spirit of cultural integration.

She said the theme of event aims to connect students with their past and its rich civilisations.

“This brings students from different countries together and teaches them life-long skills such as volunteerism teamwork organisation interpersonal relations and problem-solving” she said.
