Mars issues precautionary recall in the UAE

Mars Gulf has made a "precautionary recall" of some of its chocolate products manufactured in the Netherlands in four GCC countries including the UAE.

The recall does not affect the same brands produced locally.

The confectionary giant announced the regional recall on Wednesday afternoon following a massive recall announced in 55 countries after a consumer found a small piece of red plastic in one Snickers bar purchased in Germany.

The international voluntarily recall affected a selection of Snickers Mars Milky Way and Celebrations products all manufactured in the Veghel factory in the Netherlands.

However in the GCC including the UAE Kuwait Qatar Bahrain and Oman markets Mars Gulf said in statement that it has decided to take a precautionary recall of a selection of Snickers (Miniatures) Mars (Minis and Miniatures) and Best of Our Minis products produced in the Netherlands.

The same brands manufactured in the UAE however have not been recalled as they are not linked to the Holland incident a Mars spokesperson told Khaleej Times.

"We make Mars and Snickers in the US Netherlands France the UAE and in China.Our locally manufactured products have no relations to this incident that happened in Holland. The precautionary recall is restricted to the chocolate bars that might have got exported from the Netherlands (to the UAE)" the spokesperson said.

The company said it is a voluntary measure taken by Mars to avoid any possibility of health hazards that may be caused by the presence of pieces of plastics.

"This incident has no impact on any of our same chocolate brands or products outside the above list or produced in other countries regardless of format size batches or packaging" it added.

Consumers

"Mars Gulf would like to reassure that this precautionary measure is driven by our belief that our consumer safety is our first priority and we will take all the necessary measures to protect the safety of our consumers."

"We advise consumers who have purchased any of Snickers (Miniatures) Mars(Minis and Miniatures) and Best of Our Minis with the mentioned (see the box) expiry dates and manufactured in The Netherlands not to consume the product and to contact the Mars Consumer Care representative on the following e-mail address

Mars Gulf would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused to our consumers by this incident" it added.
