ABU DHABI 24th February 2016 (WAM) -- A local English-language daily has commended the country's government for being in the forefront when it comes to ensuring that opportunities for education and training are open to all without any bias on the basis of gender.

"Women in the UAE are key partners in building the future of the nation" said The Gulf Today in an editorial on Wednesday.

It is a matter of pride for every citizen that the UAE is hosting the region's first Global Women's Forum Dubai in which thought leaders and decision makers from both private and public sectors around the world are participating to advance the global dialogue on women's participation workplace diversity and gender balance.

As Christine Lagarde Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund rightly outlined three things require urgent attention: better education access to finance and the legal system.

Yes governments around the world need to urgently remedy the issues of access to finance education and legal system for women. This is especially because statistics from among 143 countries surveyed reveal that 90 percent do not have a legal system to support women.

Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan hit the nail on the head when she mentioned that challenges would be resolved when education and innovation are used together to create a space for girls and women to be moulded into the persons with their talent and potential encouraged and developed.

Arab women have made great strides in varied fields and Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi Speaker of the Federal National Council FNC deserves praise for taking the delegates through the history of women's empowerment in the UAE.

As she explained while the first school for girls was put up in the country with one teacher and 30 pupils in 1955 current registrations showed that 70 percent of all university graduates across the UAE are Emirati women.

"It is heartening that the UAE is carrying on the legacy of the Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan a man who set an example for empowering women and unleashing their potential" concluded the Sharjah-based daily.
