Qatar- Emir's Cultural Adviser meets GCC Chief and Saudi Minister

Riyadh: GCC Secretary-General Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani yesterday met the Emir’s Cultural Adviser H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari.

Dr Al Kuwari is Qatar’s nominee for the next director-general of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).

Dr Al Zayani welcomed Dr Al Kuwari praising his role in enriching cultural life in Qatar during his tenure as the minister of culture arts and heritage.

Dr Al Zayani also expressed the GCC’s support to Qatar’s nomination for the Unesco director-general.

Dr Al Kuwari praised the GCC for backing the nomination and said coordination between GCC members in regional and international events reflects the depths of relations and the strength of joint work.

Saudi Minister of Culture and Information Adel bin Zaid Al Turaifi also held a separate meeting with Dr Al Kuwari.

They discussed Unesco’s role and ways of developing it.

Al Turaifi expressed the kingdom’s support to Qatar in its nomination of Dr Al Kuwari as the next Unesco director-general.

Dr Al Kuwari thanked Saudi Arabia for support and expressed happiness over visiting Riyadh as the first Arab capital after his official nomination.QNA
