Doha: Sidra Medical and Research Centre (Sidra) has announced its national development programmes for 2016 including education grants internship and job shadowing opportunities.

Sidra’s Education Grant and Graduate Associate programmes are set up to encourage Qataris to take up careers in clinical medicine and prepare them for roles at the centre.

The Education Grant programme provides grants for Qataris studying in clinical fields from approved local and international universities. The Graduate Associate programme offers graduates who have finished their Education Grant-supported study to join Sidra for career opportunities.

Dr Eiman Al Ansari Executive Director Learning and Development and Director National Development Sidra said “Our programmes are developed to give mentorship and career guidance opportunities to nationals and motivate them to take up key roles in the healthcare sector.

“We are looking for ambitious and dynamic youth who share our commitment to transform healthcare in Qatar and the region. Our goal is to target those studying for clinical degrees and encourage and guide students to career paths in the healthcare sector.”

Following the success of the job shadowing programme with the Bedaya Centre last year Sidra has continued partnership by launching two such initiatives this year.

The programme aims to provide opportunity for high school students to work and shadow a Sidra employee for a day. More than 16 students were mentored by department leads at Sidra including communications recruitment and the Simulation Centre in the first round in January. The next round will be held this August.

The national development programmes focus on developing and empowering local talent to support Qatar’s National Vision 2030.

As part of its efforts to promote this objective across the country Sidra participated in events including the Qatar Career Fair (Winter Camp) in January; the QF Career Fair at Hamad Bin Khalifa University; and Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar’s event earlier this month.

“Our Education outreach team has participated in some of the leading career fairs across universities and high schools in Qatar.

“In partnership with Sidra’s simulation team and support from several of our clinical leads including Nursing and Paediatric Emergency our outreach programmes are packaged to give students first-hand experience in a simulation-type setting.

“The programme gives students opportunity to learn more about careers in medicine. It is encouraging to see the growing interest in healthcare careers among our youth and the curiosity they display when using some of the simulation technology and manequins” said Dr Eiman.

The outreach team will be at the 10th Career Forum at Qatar University from March 14 to 17. For details about Sidra’s national development Programmes visit www.sidra.org or contact Peninsula
