Morocco- Rabat to Host 31st Intergovernmental Committee of Experts


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) will host the 31st Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE) from 1 to 4 March in Rabat. The four-day event will focus on the theme 'Green economy to speed up industrialization in North Africa.'

The ICE meeting will feature an assembly of officials academics and civil society representatives who will examine the social and economic status of North Africa and make recommendations concerning economic development and increased integration across Africa.

Previous ICE meetings have tackled a wide variety of topics such as optimizing the use of basic commodities and other natural resources selecting policy and institutional frameworks and speeding up industrialization through trade.

This year's discussion will shed light on how Africa can effectively industrialize in a context characterized by the growing scarcity of natural resources. Talks will take into account energy transition climate change impacts and the need to meet COP21 and soon COP22 commitments.

The discussion will also take into consideration North Africa's critical need to speed up industrialization while preserving its environment and rationing its use of resources to protect the rights of future generations.

In addition to hosting the ICE meeting the ECA will also hold a round table with the theme 'Industrialization through trade in North Africa in a multi-agreement context.' Participants in this event will brainstorm solutions to turn trade liberalization into actual industrialization facilitate the emergence of growth poles in strategic industrial sectors and build regional value chains.

The ECA is one of the five regional commissions of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). ECA's sub-regional office in North Africa aims to promote the sub-region's development by helping North African countries formulate and apply policies and programs to achieve economic and social advancement.
