UAE- Sheikh Zayed Book Award gears up for short list announcements

ABU DHABI 22nd February 2016 (WAM) -- The Scientific Committee of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award has completed its last meeting in Abu Dhabi as part of proceedings of the tenth session.

Dr. Ali Bin Tamim the Sheikh Zayed Book Award's Secretary-General lead the deliberations joined by committee members Mohammed Bennis from Morocco Massoud Daher from Lebanon Kadhim Jihad from France/Iraq Habiba Al Smasi from UAE Mohamed Badran from Egypt Mohammed Safarani from Saudi Arabia Khalil Al Shaikh from Jordan and Juergen Boos from Germany.

The committee reviewed Judges Reports and the evaluation of nominated works to finalise the names of short-listed candidates in addition to discussing the cultural agenda of the award during its tenth cycle.

On the occasion of marking ten years since the establishment of the award Dr. Ali said "The committee decided on a number of cultural initiatives to reinforce the presence of the prize internationally in addition to restructuring the mechanisms governing the "Arab culture in other languages category". Bin Tamim added that these initiatives will be announced during the Abu Dhabi International Exhibition.

The Sheikh Zayed Book Award will name its short listed contenders in the coming few days followed by the winners announcement once signed off by the Board of Trustees. The annual grand ceremony will be held during the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair taking place from April 27th to May 3rd 2016 at the International Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi The award thrives to foster greater scholarship and creativity by recognising and rewarding significant cultural achievements to Arabic culture. It rewards innovators intellectuals researchers and writers who have made significant contributions to literature social sciences and the culture and knowledge of the modern age and encourages creativity in youth.
