American dream easier to attain in Oman than US: Survey

Oman is the second best country in the world to live the 'American Dream' according to a survey.

The American Dream has been defined as the cost of a housing loan a car loan petrol utilities food and water for a family of four four inexpensive restaurant meals per month for the family the price of movie tickets for the family and one outing for the parents (a three-course meal at a mid-priced restaurant). The survey was conducted by TheRedPin a Canadian brokerage company.

According to the report residents of every single country would need to earn more than the average US post-tax salary of US$2717 per month. Ironically ranked at third place Americans themselves would need to earn US$842 more per month to fulfil the American dream.

The American dream across the world: Which countries can afford the US Lifestyle places Saudi Arabia at number one with 1.04 local salaries needed to fund the American Dream Oman at number two with 1.22 local salaries needed and the US at number three with 1.31 salaries needed.

Five of the top six countries best able to afford the American lifestyle are GCC member states with UAE Qatar and Kuwait rounding off the top six.

'We analysed the accessibility of the American Dream to residents of various countries. Who can afford it? Who falls short? The results offer a poignant view of dreams versus realityand a sobering glimpse at living conditions for people around the world' according to TheRedPin.

Meanwhile at the other end of the survey the number of local salaries to fund the American Dream in Cuba Venezuela and Ghana are 95.7 33.8 and 25.2 respectively.
