PKK terrorists abduct three journalists in SE Turkey


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >PKK terrorists who abducted three journalists working for Anadolu Agency in Turkey's southeastern Mardin province have held the trio for over 48 hours.

The journalists are being held at an unknown location; their cameras were also seized.

Anadolu Agency correspondent Rauf Maltas (31) photojournalist Onur Coban (36) and cameraman Kenan Yesilyurt (26) were assigned last week to Mardin's Nusaybin district to cover stories in the region.

The PKK -- considered a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July 2015.

Biography of journalists

Onur Coban

Onur Coban was born in 1980 in Mus. Coban graduated from Gazi University's Communication Faculty. In 2012 he started at Anadolu Agency.

He has worked in Darfur Afghanistan Somalia Libya Tunisia Yemen Ukraine and the Philippines. Coban is married.

Kenan Yesilyurt

Kenan Yesilyurt was born in 1983 in Gumushane. Yesilyurt has worked as a cameraman at Anadolu Agency since 2007. He has worked in Syria Gaza Egypt Somalia Libya the Philippines Japan and South Africa.

Yesilyurt was the first cameraman to report on the massacre in Cairo’s Rabaa al-Adawiya Square in 2013. He is married with one child.

Rauf Maltas

Rauf Maltas was born in 1985 in Malatya. He graduated from Selcuk University's Communication Faculty. Maltas started working for Anadolu Agency in 2009. He has covered news along Turkey's border with Syria in Hatay Gaziantep and Kilis provinces. He is married.
