Jordan- Drop in temperatures forecast as depression takes effect


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Feb.21 (Petra) -- A slight depression centered over Cyprus is forecast to start affecting the Kingdom on Sunday accompanied by a cold air mass; therefore it will be relatively cold and partly cloudy to cloudy with rain in the northern regions that will gradually extend to other parts of the country.

According to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) winds will be westerly moderate to brisk stirring dust in the Badia regions.

Cold cloudy and heavy rain accompanied with thunderstorms and hail are expected to prevail during Sunday night the JMD added.

Another drop in temperatures is expected on Monday therefore it will remain cold cloudy with heavy rain accompanied with thunder and lightening in the northern and central regions while hail will drop in the mountainous areas. Winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk.

As for Tuesday a slight rise in temperatures is forecast but it will remain cold and partly cloudy to cloudy with a chance for scattered showers. Winds will be northwesterly moderate with cloud formation in morning hours the JMD said.

Temperatures expected in the capital for today will range between a high of 14 degrees Celsius and a low of 7 degrees at night while mercury levels in the Gulf of Aqaba will hit 23 plunging to 13 degrees at night.
