US has no information about fate of 2 Serbian hostages in Libya


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON Feb 20 (KUNA) -- The US denied as of yet the death of two Serbian hostages in Libya as a result of an airstrike against the so-called Islamic State (IS) in Libya yesterday.In a press statement on Saturday the Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said: "We have no information indicating that their deaths were a result of the strike that US Forces conducted against an IS senior leader and IS training camp in Libya." "Our forces watched this training camp for weeks leading up to the operation and at the time of the strike there were no indications of any civilians present" Cook indicated."While the circumstances of their deaths remain unclear we nevertheless express our deepest condolences to the Serbian government and the families of those killed" he said.He reiterated that the US will share "whatever information we can with the Serbian government" and that "the US military goes to extraordinary lengths to limit the risk of civilian casualties and in our campaign to defeat IS we will continue to do so." The Pentagon announced Friday that an airstrike aimed at a training camp in Libya resulted in the "removal" of a senior IS leader Noureddine Chouchane who is believed to be linked to the attack on the Bardo Museum in the Tunisian capital last year.
