UAE- Emirati woman 3 kids drowned after SUV drifted in heavy rain

An Emirati woman and her three kids were drowned to death after the SUV car they were picnicking in under the heavy showers was drifted in the flooded Al Qoor Valley at the Manei area in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.

However the Emirati husband who went out with the family to enjoy the rains and weather at the deep valley was shifted to the hospital in bad condition. Police rescue teams spent all night searching for the three children.

The 11-year old girl was fished out around midnight whereas the other two boys three and six years old were found later police sources told Khaleej Times on Thursday.

The Central Operations Room of the RAK Police alerted of the mishap late on Wednesday dispatched police patrols ambulances medics as well as search and rescue teams to valley.

Brigadier Ghanim Ahmed Ghanim (left) director general of the central operations RAK Police said the RAK police managed to locate and rescue the drowned 4W-drive car.

"We have lifted up the dead body of the mother identified only as A.S.A. whereas the husband A.A.K was rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment and medical care."

The 11-year-old daughter of the Emirati couple was found later at midnight while search was on for two other missing sons who were later found he added. "They were all in the same car since the Wednesday afternoon."

Brig Ghanim warned all drivers against speeding on the wet and slippery roads. "The weather conditions are unstable and heavy showers tough winds floods and low visibility are expected across the country."

Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi (right) Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police said more traffic and rescue patrols have been deployed on all the roads highways and valleys of the emirate since the beginning of the heavy rains.

"Paramedics and ambulances have been deployed on critical sites whereas the central operations room is all set to handle all emergency situations in collaboration with the departments concerned."

More traffic patrols have been deployed on the highways to alert drivers about the unstable weather and heavy showers he added. "These patrols will also be ready to immediately handle traffic accidents and emergency situations."

Brig Ghanim urged all drivers to adhere to traffic rules particularly in these conditions. "Motorists are advised to reduce speed keep longer safety space and turn on lights."

Seafarers beach and valleys goers and motorists are still urged to be more cautious during the unstable weather he pointed out. "Residents of the areas much exposed to pouring showers and strong winds are requested to be careful and immediately call (999) in case of emergency."

The RAK department of public works and services has meanwhile deployed a big number of tankers to suck out the accumulated ponds of rainwater particularly at the low level areas and major roads.

"The public are requested to report big ponds of water" said Eng Ahmed Al Hammadi director general of the department. "We have received some complaints from the public about accumulated water at their houses apart from some low-level areas and side roads."

The Qoor valley in RAK where the family tragedy took place is heavily flooded.
