Soldier martyred two wounded in southeast Turkey attack

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A Turkish soldier was martyred and two others were wounded late Tuesday during anti-PKK operations in southeastern Diyarbakir province’s Sur district the military said Wednesday.

The Turkish General Staff said in a statement that the martyred soldier had succumbed to his injuries inside a hospital.

It added that a terrorist was also killed in Tuesday's operation.

Parts of southeastern Turkey have been the focus of counter-terror operations and military curfews since December 2015.

The PKK -- considered a terrorist organization by Turkey the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July 2015.

Since then more than 260 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
