Green Buildings to Rationalize Energy Consumption in Oman

Muscat 17th February 2016 (WAM) ----The Sultanate of Oman is shifting towards ' Green Building' in a bid to rationalize energy consumption and utilize the renewal solar and wind energy Khamis bin Salim al- Soli Chairman of Oman Green Building Center said in an interview with Oman Economic newspaper carried by Oman News Agency ONA.

He said that the Sultanate plans to build a center for green buildings under the umbrella of the Omani Engineers Society.

He pointed out that green building is a new concept that describes the building that meets the needs for protecting environment.

He added that researches have pointed out that 45% of buildings are responsible for the use of world energy 80% of water produced and 50% of materials are consumed by buildings.

'The aims behind the construction of such buildings are to reduce 35-50% of the CO2 emission by utilizing wind and solar renewable energy he furthered.

"Green buildings bring many benefits such as reducing the production of solid wastes to the minimum and ensure tranquility and peace of mind by circulating air and utilizing solar heating at home he concluded.
