ARIME BTA bag contracts for duty free FB space at new Muscat airport

The Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) has awarded the contracts for management and operation of the duty-free section at the new Muscat International Airport to Aer Rianta International Middle East (ARIME) and BTA which is a subsidiary of TAV Airports.

ARIME's parent company Aer Rianta International is one of the world's longest established and most successful travel retail companies that designs manages and operates duty-free and duty-paid airport retail outlets in Europe Asia and the Americas. ARIME is the biggest international duty-free operator in the region operating in Bahrain Qatar and Beirut as well as Cyprus in Europe.

BTA which provides food and beverage services will manage a host of international restaurants in the airport building.

Both contracts are for a ten-year period and provide commercial space of over 18000sq m in the terminal.

The duty-free and luxury retail package will offer ARIME 5320sq m space to provide core duty-free products in addition to luxury fashion accessories watches toys gourmet foods and confectionery. BTA will have 3560sq m of space for food and drinks. These companies beat stiff competition from four international companies who submitted technical and financial bids said OAMC.

OAMC officials affirmed the company's eagerness to make the travel experience at the new airport a unique one. They added that the bids submitted by ARIME and BTA were characterised by innovative ideas that are likely to improve the marketing plan for the airport.

In a statement to Oman News Agency an OAMC official said 'We expect the cooperation with the two famous companies will lead to attracting more passengers through the offers and services they will provide at Muscat International Airport which will further enhance the status of the airport as a destination desired by passengers and make them live the experience that combines the rich heritage and contemporary vision of the free market.'

The Muscat Duty Free operating at the current airport is a 50-50 joint venture between Oman Air and ARIME.

In 2015 ATU Duty Free a TAV Airports and Unifree Duty Free joint venture was awarded a ten-year contract to operate duty-free stores at the new Salalah Airport.
