Morocco Avant garde Country in Adapting to Climate Change: UN Official


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Morocco is an “avant-garde” country in adapting to climate change Deputy Resident Representative at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Morocco Ayshanie Medagangoda-Labe said here on Tuesday.

Speaking at a seminar on “Climate Change Policy in Morocco: Facts and Perspectives” Medagangoda-Labe hailed Morocco's commitment to combating climate change and the various reforms initiated to adapt with its effects.

Morocco has adopted important institutional and regulatory reforms regarding climate change she said underlying that the Kingdom has participated “actively” in the global efforts aimed at adapting and reducing climate change effects.

For his part Minister of Energy Mining Water and Environment Abdelkader Amara highlighted the different achievements Morocco has made in this field referring to the recent inauguration of the first plant of the Noor-Ouarzazate solar complex (Noor I).

He also noted that Morocco has set up COP22 Steering Committee which will be in charge of the preparation and organization of the 22nd United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP2) scheduled on November 7-18 in Marrakech.
