An Egyptian man is being tried in the court for allegedly threatening to throw acid on his ex-wife and her mother.

The 41-year-old resident allegedly sent the threats via his friend. According to prosecution records he said 'tell her to stay out of my way or it is possible that I would send someone to throw acid on her and her mother".

The accused denied the charge of making criminal threats in the Court of First Instance. He claimed his ex-wife's complaint is malicious and she is trying to get their children's custody. The case dates back to November last year.

The complainant a 31-year-old Egyptian said that she was at work in Dubai when the witness called her. "He told me about my ex-husband's threats that he would throw acid on me and my mother in Egypt. He threatened he would hurt me outside the building where I stayed in Dubai if I didn't stay out of his way."

The witness a 47-year-old Egyptian resident said that the defendant made the threats when he called his wife's friend to say he wanted to see his daughters.

The next hearing is scheduled for March 3.
