UN Syria envoy arrives in Damascus

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN Feb 15 (KUNA) -- The Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria Staffan de Mistura arrived in Damascus on Monday for talks with senior Syrian officials.He is scheduled to discuss with the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Muallem on Tuesday the outcomes of the meeting of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) held in Munich on February 11-12 with emphasis on the efforts to reach ceasefire and deliver support to the besieged areas.The talks will also deal with the indirect UN-sponsored peace talks between Syrian government and the opposition forces due to resume on February 25 according to a press release issued by the UN office in the Syrian capital city tonight.De Mistura's visit coincides with a serious escalation of the Syrian conflict with the regular troops and pro-regime militias advancing in the norther Aleppo and Latakia areas amid air attacks by the Russian warplanes on the opposition forces.
