Morocco- Video Shows Heavy Snowfall in Ifrane


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) After several weeks of extremely dry weather Moroccans are finally cheering for the snow and rain currently impacting most of the country particularly the northern and High Atlas regions.

A video posted on social mediathis Monday shows heavy snowfall in the mountain city of Ifrane dubbed 'Morocco's Switzerland.'

The video has been widely shared on social media with many Moroccans expressing their joy at the long-awaited start to winter in the country.

Morocco has been facing one of its driest years since 1995. The lack of rain will have a negative effect on agriculture one Morocco's most profitable industries.

A special warning issued by Morocco's National Directorate of Meteorologyon Sundaysaid that significant snowfall was expected in several regions of the country particularly in the following areas:Ifrane Sefrou Boulemane Midelt Khenifra El Hajeb Beni Mellal Azilal Al Haouz the Taounate reliefs Al Hoceima Chaoune Eastern High Plateaux Taourirte Figuig and Jerada.

According to the same source this snowfall brings with it a cold wave with minimum temperatures ranging between -9 and -1 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures ranging between 5 and 10 degrees. This cold wave will continue throughWednesday.
