Gunshots injure policeman at Istanbul protest


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) One policeman was slightly injured late Sunday as gunshots rang out at a street protest in Istanbul.

Fifty-nine people were also arrested during a demonstration in support of the PKK terror organization in the Sultangazi district on the city’s European side Istanbul police department said.

Five guns two rifles and over 100 Molotov cocktails and handmade explosives were also seized during the protest which was in support of jailed PKK head Abdullah Ocalan.

The PKK -- designated a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- renewed its armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July.

Since then more than 260 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed.
