QRCS carried out projects worth QR2.786m in Qatar last year


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Participants at one of the programmes organised by Qatar Red Crescent Society in Al Khor.

DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) Al Khor branch carried out charitable projects worth over QR2.786m last year benefiting 31021 people of various ages and walks of life in the northern parts of the country. In terms of social development the branch extended its services to 820 people from poor families with a budget of QR626000 according to the 2015 annual report released by the branch.

Services included economic empowerment of low-income people academic empowerment of students and medical assistance for patients.

Seasonal in-kind assistance included Ramadan provision Zakat-ul-Fitr Eid gratuity and World Orphans Day gift in addition to participation in many programmes lectures and social events.

As a key field of work for the branch medical services provided last year amounted to QR1827000.

These included emergency medical care for athletes and spectators during sport recreational and touristic events in Al Shamal as well as National Day and National Sport Day celebrations. Several ambulance vehicles and medics are stationed at residential complexes of petroleum companies. The branch proceeded with the ‘I Am a Paramedic’ programme which involves first aid lectures and training for schoolchildren.

Last year the programme covered 1140 students teachers administrative staff and supervisors from 10 schools and social centres.

Year-round the branch conducts community health programmes to promote healthy and preventive standards among society members by distributing multilingual health education and road safety publications as well as participating in health events and exhibitions at schools social clubs youth and girls centres and other civil society organisations.

In relation to health education 51 awareness lectures were delivered for 4131 people. The branch participated in 15 health events attended by 6030 people. Under Ramadan Medical Program 1436 A.H. around 1500 fasting people received health information at QRCS Ramadan tent mosques and malls. The branch also organised Ramadan Iftar programme in Al Khor setting up a tent to offer daily Iftar meals and religious health and informative lectures for visitors.

During the holy month the tent received 17400 people and involved QR333000.The Peninsula
