Yet another healthy UAE move: paper

ABU DHABI 14th February 2016 (WAM) -- A UAE newspaper has said that the move by the Ministry of Interior to deploy 82 automatic defibrillators in different areas of the UAE is highly praiseworthy and shows that the country cares for its residents. This will help deal with emergencies and patients suffering from heart failure.

Installing these defibrillators in public places realises the vision of H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior aiming to train staff members working in public places such as malls shopping centres municipality governmental entities and public parks in order to save the lives of people who might face cardiac arrests. The number of training courses for individuals and staff working at shopping centres and entities to use defibrillators has hit 78.

"A defibrillator is an automatic medical equipment used to treat heart rhythm disorders by electric shocks" said The Gulf Today in an editorial on Sunday.

The UAE government makes all-out efforts to raise the bar on well-being and a healthy lifestyle for both citizens and expatriates alike. It also cares for blue-collar workers as the Hamdan bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine screened 2000 workers as part of its oral hygiene initiative by the end of 2015. The second phase of the initiative will screen 4000 workers. Many workers have limited access to dental treatment and thus develop tooth problems in the process. The move not only provides relief from financial woes but also health issues.

Additionally the insurance firm Daman conducted interactive nutrition workshops in 16 schools across Abu Dhabi.

The UAE's health concerns cross international boundaries. Human Appeal International HAI in cooperation with Friends of Thalassaemia Patients' Friends Society in Ramallah Palestine has provided blood filters for thalassaemia patients in the West Bank.

The UAE healthcare market has been steadily growing over the last decade. Under the guidance of the UAE's visionary Rulers the country is soon becoming the regional healthcare hub. Dedicated healthcare free zones like Dubai Healthcare City are certainly catalysts for such growth.

Increasingly sedentary lifestyles are having a sorry effect on people who develop diabetic and heart diseases. Public healthcare education initiatives and easy access to good medical advice are integral to helping curb the detrimental impact of such conditions in the region.

The daily concluded by saying "A recent report predicts that the healthcare market in the UAE is expected to grow by 7 percent during the period 2015 to 2020. There is a boom in the healthcare sector due to population growth ageing population and growing medical tourism in the region. Dubai's medical tourism strategy announced earlier this year seeks to attract 500000 medical tourists by 2020."
