Qatar- Dr Hamad Al Kuwari named 'Man of the Arab Heritage'

DOHA: Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari the former minister of culture arts and heritage has been named ‘Man of the Arab Heritage’ for 2016 by the Arab Centre for Tourism Media (ACTM) in recognition of his efforts to preserve Arab history and heritage.

Winning the 2016 Arab heritage personality of the year award is a recognition of Qatar’s efforts in protecting and preserving heritage according to Dr Al Kuwari.

He is the Qatari candidate for the secretary general position at the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco). Al Kuwari has been the Minister for Culture Arts and Heritage of Qatar for more than seven years. He was previously the Ambassador of Qatar for France the United States the Unesco and the UN. Speaking to QNA after landing the award that was announced in Abu Dhabi by the Arab Center for Tourism Media (ACTM) Al Kuwari said the recognition is not only an honour but also a responsibility and trust that requires carrying on not only at the domestic and Arab levels but the global one in general.

He said that such recognition stresses to the world Qatar’s keenness on heritage which is one of the noble responsibilities of Unesco particularly during the current situation in the Arab countries such as Syria Iraq Yemen and Libya which makes heritage a victim that is subject to destruction and looting.

He also said that he shares the responsibility in saving the history and heritage of Qatar. And Arab heritage is main tourist attraction of the region.
