Ex Israeli PM to Serve 19 month Jail Term for Corruption

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Israel’s Jerusalem Magistrate on Wednesday extended a jail sentence handed down earlier against former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert after the latter was convicted on bribery charges.
Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Olmert 70 would begin serving his one-year-and-seven-month sentence next Monday becoming the first Israeli premier to serve time in jail.
He must also pay a fine of 50000 Israeli shekels (roughly $13000).
Olmert was convicted of taking bribes in relation to the construction of Jerusalem’s Holyland residential complex while serving as Jerusalem mayor from 1993 to 2003.
He later served as Israeli prime minister from 2006 to 2009 but was forced to step down after police called for his indictment on graft charges.
