Morocco, Saudi Arabia share views on Syria


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RABAT Feb 11 (KUNA) -- Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Salaheddine Mezouar and visiting Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmad Al-Jubeir agreed that a solution to the Syrian conflict lies in enabling the Syrian people to determine their destiny through a process of political transition.Speaking at a joint press conference Wednesday night after talks with his guest on Mezouar said the two kingdoms believe that the transitional stage should guarantee an end to violence and protection of the state institutions."The two countries are firmly opposed to the attempts of foreign parties to manipulate the sectarian differences among the brotherly people of Syria for serving their own interests and interfering in the domestic affairs of Syria" he said.The Moroccan minister added that he discussed with Al-Jubeir the various aspects of cooperation between the two countries and regional issues with emphasis on the efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people.On his part Al-Jubeir stressed that the Saudi policy is based on respect for the sovereignty of other countries neighborliness and non-interference in the internal affairs of others well as supporting the Arab and Islamic issues.The minister reiterated the Kingdom's keenness on maintaining the Syrian institutions saying: "We discuss details regarding participation of the ground troops in Syria with the concerned countries." Regarding the Geneva talks he attributed the current stalemate to Russia's intransigent attitude towards supporting the regime of president Bashar Al-Assad.He added that the future Syria has no room for Al-Assad affirming keenness on stepping up the political process in order to stop the current bloodshed as early as possible.Earlier in the day Al-Jubeir started his first official visit to Morocco under an invitation from Mezouar.
