UAE to chair Arab League Consultative meeting on Sunday

CAIRO 10th February 2016 (WAM)--The Arab League Council will on Sunday hold a consultative meeting at the level of permanent representatives to be headed by the UAE and attended by the Arab League Secretary General Dr. Nabil Elaraby.

According to an Arab diplomatic source the meeting will discuss the overall current developments in the region and prepare for the Arab summit scheduled on 29th and 30th March in the city of Marrakech Morocco. The participants will assess the implementation of the decisions of previous summits and prepare for the upcoming Arab summit.

The meeting will also tackle the reform of the Arab League and the joint Arab action especially after the introduction of new amendments to the Charter of the Arab League pending submission to the Arab leaders in Morocco summit to endorse them.

Elaraby will brief the permanent representatives on the results of his recent tours especially his participation at the Supporting Syria & the Region 2016 Conference in London and the meetings on the sidelines of the conference with a number of international officials. The consultations focussed on the latest developments in Syria Libya and Yemen as well as supporting the Palestinian cause and efforts to enforce the two-state solution.
