Oman- University of Nizwa to hold forum on Information Systems Trends

The Department of Information Systems of the University of Nizwa (UoN) will be hosting its first National Conference on Information Systems Trends (NIST) on February 11 at its Birkat Al Mouz Campus near Nizwa.

The theme of the conference is Cloud Computing the practice of using remote servers to store manage and process data rather than local servers or personal computers. Touted as a ubiquitous on-demand service 'the cloud' is still a mystery to many. The NIST 2016 Conference advocates greater efficiencies in computing in the national interest and provides an opportunity for high level discussion debate and information.

The conference will feature as its keynote speaker Dr Salim bin Sultan bin Salim al Ruzaiqi chief executive officer of the Information Technology Authority in Oman including currently as a member of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and with previous business technical and administrative responsibilities in a variety of Oman's leading organisations and institutions.

He is on the executive committee of Oman University a board member of the Public Authority of Manpower Register the National Centre for Statistics and Information and the Science and Technology Park project.

Serving previously on the board of Omantel and Oman Mobile for a number of years Dr Ruzaiqi has been prominent in the sultanate for more than two decades as a leading diplomat institutional and educational figurehead.

The 2016 edition of the conference according to conference chairman Dr Ahmed Masoud al Kindi dean of the College of Economics Management and Information Systems (UoN) will feature the keynote address three plenary sessions and two paper presentation sessions where papers will be presented by a number of local academics.

The plenary session speakers include Dr Bader al Manthari DG of Information Security Division IT Authority of Oman and Abdulla bin Issa al Rawahy chief alliances at Ooredoo.
