Oman Cricket inaugurates floodlights at Al Amerat Ground

Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al- Said Honorary Chairman of Oman Cricket Club inaugurated Al Amerat Cricket Stadium yesterday evening in the presence of Sheikh Saad bin Mohammed al Mardoof al- Saadi Minister of Sports Affairs Sheikh Dr. Yahya bin Sulaiman al- Nadabi the Wali of Al Amerat a number of members of Majlis A'Shura a number of officials and fans of the game.

Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al- Said said in a statement that the establishment of Oman Cricket Club was donated by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said. There is a tendency for the establishment of an academy and a school for the game he furthered.

He urged young Omani fans of the game to take the initiative to join the club wishing that the national cricket team achieves positive results during its participation in the world Cup qualifier next month in India.

Sayyid Haitham thanked the management of the Oman Cricket Club on the efforts they have made during the last period.

The celebration began by welcoming Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al- Said and the guests. The stadium was lighted followed by the introduction of the players of the national team and British Marylebone Cricket team which had arrived in the Sultanate to have a joint camp with the national cricket team until February 9th.

The sponsoring companies of the project were honored followed by showing the jerseys to be worn by the national cricket team in its participation in the Cricket World Cup Finals in India.

Sayyid Haitham and the guests watched aside from the national team match with the Marylebone Cricket team from the United Kingdom.

Sheikh Dr. Yahya bin Suleiman bin Abdullah al- Nadabi praised the opening of a cricket stadium in the Wilayat of Al Amerat and expressed his thanks to Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al- Said Honorary Chairman of the Oman Cricket Club and the club's board to choose the Wilayat of Al Amerat to be a center of cricket in the Sultanate.
