H E Ali al Hajri Qatar's Ambassador to Oman has said that townships are the way forward for the Gulf to accommodate migrant workers.

'For Qatar and other GCC countries it's actually a start and we need to continue projects like this' he said at the inauguration of the Al Raha Village.

'It's a very important project taking care of the workers who are sharing with us developing our countries. I think what I saw today and what everybody is seeing is something we are proud of.' Shaqab is planning to build a similar project in Qatar.

'It's going to be the standard for I think most of the countries in GCC. Everybody's trying we are on the same page. All of us are trying our best to address the issue.' In November Qatar opened its own 'labour city' a mega residential complex to accommodate almost 70000 workers.

That project has two residential districts and an entertainment and business district. It has a market with 200 shops four cinemas two mosques two police stations and a cricket field. 'I believe this is the right way to do it and I'm very optimistic that we'll see many of these projects in other countries in GCC' H E Hajri said.
