Qatar- Sewing centre for Syrian refugees

DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has opened a sewing centre for female Syrian refugees in Sidon Lebanon.

It aims to teach sewing to 25 girls and women for free every nine months. The centre also provides jobs to 40 women.

Under the theme ‘Having a Job Beats Poverty’ the ‘Mother Sewing Centre’ project is implemented by QC in cooperation with Islamic Welfare Association Imam Hussein Mosque Association in Bramiye-Sidon and Human Appeal International-UK.

A bazaar will be added to the centre to allow distribution of clothes to the needy displaced families.

The project also includes a workshop an atelier to display products and donated clothes after packing and sorting them a hall to receive donated clothes and a laundry.

The total cost of the project was $1m and QC contributed $350000 to equip the workshop and the centre.

During inauguration Ibrahim Zeinal Mousa Deputy Executive Director International Development and Relief QC said the charity has spent over $102m on its relief projects — 67 percent in Syria and 33 percent in Lebanon Turkey Jordan Iraq and other countries. “QC was first concerned with securing food and shelter for the Syrian brothers and sisters and later started implementing sustainable projects. It supported education and schools income generating projects and food security in Syria and countries of refuge.”

He said QC is preparing for a new project in the field of e-learning at a cost of $3m.

QC Human Appeal International-UK and Islamic Welfare Association have signed on the sideline of the third International Forum for Humanitarian Action a partnership agreement to implement the workshop and the teaching centre.
