Do you switch off your vehicle engine at fuel stations ?

Adil Businessman
I keep the engine on only if I am in a queue at the filling station. Yes I think motorists should follow safety tips recommended at fuel stations. Switching off mobile phones while refuelling is also important to avoid causing fire.

Aslam Oil and gas staff
Yes it is always better to turn off the ignition not just for your own safety but for others as well. It will also help save fuel.

I turn off the engine whenever I am alerted by staff at fuel stations. I know that it is better to switch off but at times I forget. One should follow the rule strictly to avoid a mishap.

Yousuf al Belushi Bank employee
Yes. It is advisable to turn off the ignition at fuel stations as a spark from the engine can cause fire. I think motorists should follow the practice keeping the safety aspect in mind.

C Y Shameer Private sector employee
I try and switch off the ignition while refuelling whenever I remember. There have been incidents where fuel stations have caught fire due to the carelessness of motorists.

Reju Private sector employee
I do not turn off the engine at a fuel station if I am in a hurry. However I know it is risky to leave the ignition on as even a small spark can cause fire. Motorists should also avoid using a mobile phone or lighting a cigarette.

Sabri Abdullah Private sector employee
Yes I have heard from a few friends that keeping the engine on while refuelling can attract a fine but I haven't seen it written anywhere. I have seen advisories at fuel stations on the same.

I didn't know ROP can impose a fine for not turning off a vehicle's engine at filling stations. I mostly turn off the engine for my safety when refuelling as I have heard of fuel stations catching fire because people failed to take necessary precautions.

Have you ever been told by a filling station attendant to switch off the vehicle engine while refuelling?

Waheed al Balushi Manager
I haven't seen any fuel station staff asking customers to switch off the vehicle engine. I think attendants should advise drivers to switch off the ignition as a precautionary measure.

Sleiman Said al Naamani Businessman
Yes I think attendants at fuel stations are doing their job well. I have seen them requesting customers to switch off the ignition while refuelling. Many people are not aware of the risks involved and ignore their requests.

Abdullah al Zadjali Businessman
No. Staff at fuel stations should be alert and remind every motorist to turn off the engine. I feel authorities should also put up big signboards at filling stations to inform people about the risks involved.

Hamoud al Musallami Private sector employee
Yes. I think the rule can be strictly enforced only if staff at filling stations put in more efforts. They should remind people to switch off vehicle engines as many people do not bother or remember to do it.

Imran al Zadjali Manager
I have seen many fuel station employees requesting motorists to switch off the engine. Not many people are aware of the risks involved in leaving the ignition on while refuelling and so no one bothers to do so even if asked to.

Adil Ahmed al Mandheri Private sector employee
Yes I think attendants at most stations insist on switching off the ignition while refuelling. Sometimes people either forget or don't switch off the engine if it is too hot outside.
