Middle East is Zika-free zone, WHO says


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Cairo, Rabi'II 29, 1437, February 08, 2016, SPA - The Middle East office of the World Health Organization (WHO) today announced that the region is considered Zika-free zone. Director of WHO Middle East office Dr. Alaa Alwan said in a press release today that this doesn't mean than Middle Eastern countries are not vulnerable to the mosquito-borne disease. He said the presence of mosquitoes in a number of countries of the Middle East goes for the possibility. However, the WHO is closely working with regional ministries of health to curb the mosquito gatherings and strengthen the disease monitoring mechanisms. -SPA 02:13 LOCAL TIME 23:13 GMT
