LONDON 8th February 2016 (WAM) -- Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi Minister of International Cooperation and Development MICAD and Head of the UAE Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid has said that the support for developing countries and poor communities to achieve food security contributes to promoting sustainable development options to meet the challenges facing individuals and peoples in the light of increasing signs about the lack of food supply due to growing climate change or refugees' situations resulting from increasing military conflicts and natural disasters.

This came when Sheikha Lubna met with Ertharin Cousin Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme WFP on the sidelines of her participation in the fourth Syria donors' conference which was held recently in the British capital London.

MICAD said that during the meeting Sheikha Lubna reviewed the UAE's efforts at the level of foreign aid under the guidance of its wise leadership where a large portion of that aid is directed to support projects of food security in developing countries and poor communities including funding and providing grants for the establishment of agricultural projects and related projects to improving and supporting food sources such as dam building and the development of water resources as well as to support investments in food manufacturing projects.

The meeting covered ways to boosting bilateral cooperation and partnership relations between the UAE and the World Food Programme particularly in terms of enhancing coordination and cooperation to provide support to countries and regions where the people suffer from increasing risk of food shortages.

The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen mechanisms of sustainable development in developing countries and support for the international community's efforts to achieve the goals of sustainable development especially with increasing of population growth indicators in many developing countries and poor communities and the paucity of natural resources creating a challenge to meet the requirements and needs of the peoples in achieving food security.

The meeting was attended by Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry for International Cooperation and Development and Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar Director of the International Organisations Department at the Foreign Ministry.
