Outdoor adventure enthusiasts are rejoicing. The academy by Bear Grylls - the ultimate name in wilderness survival - in Musandam has been a dream come true for many outdoor adventure lovers in Oman who had always wanted to get a masterclass.

Grylls' techniques of surviving harsh outdoors in the most difficult of situations has won him a growing legion of fans across the globe. His international series Man Vs Wild has an audience of over 1.2bn; his other hit television shows are Escape from Hell and Get Out Alive.

The unforgiving mountainous terrain of Dibba make a perfect setting for the Bear Grylls Survival Academy (BGSA). The academy provides 24-hour adult and 24-hour family survival courses where participants often find themselves pushed to the limit said Rachel Hill sales and marketing director BGSA.

Guided by a team of BGSA experts participants learn to survive and travel in the harsh but stunning environment. Techniques taught include surviving the desert sun how to build and light a fire purifying water dealing with snakes and scorpions using a survival knife and crossing difficult terrain.

'A night spent under the stars in the mountains is an unforgettable experience to round off Day One of the course. On Day Two participants epitomise Bear's ethos of self-rescue by crossing difficult and challenging terrain climbing jumping crawling and swinging back to civilisation' states the academy.

Rachel added 'The courses are open to everyone however we do ask that the participants have a basic level of fitness as to take part and get the best out of the course. The courses normally run from November to April and are conducted by our partners Absolute Adventure who have been through the BGSA instructor training.'

Both the courses are provided from the BGSA base - the Adventure Centre - a traditional stone lodge facing the beach at the foot of 2000m high mountains in Dibba.

The centre is just 400m before the Golden Tulip Resort Dibba and a two-hour drive from Dubai.

'Participants are surrounded by high peaks dramatic cliffs and crags and dwarfed by giant boulders in the winding wadi beds. It is a brutally harsh but utterly stunning environment' said the company.

The 24-hour family course has been designed by Bear Gyrll for enthusiastic children (aged 10-17 years) who are to be accompanied by a parent or willing adult (aged 18 years and above). The course is run by his team of highly trained experts.

'As a father of three young boys I love sharing my survival techniques and going on family adventures together.

'It is not only exciting and fun but teaches them useful life and outdoor skills and what it really means to be able to look after yourself when the chips are down. So it is with great pride that we can now launch our 24 Hour Family Course as a great opportunity for parents to share these experiences with their children together' stated Bear Grylls.
