Shamal beat Al Arabi, Khor also triumph

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Narcellius Soyebo had a match-high 26 points but still ended up on the losing side as Al Shamal posted a 74-61 victory over Al Arabi in the Qatar Basketball League yesterday.
Al Arabi had raced to a 23-17 lead at the end of the first quarter but that proved a false dawn as Al Shamal came back strongly and gained control of the match with a fine all-round display.
By the time the second quarter ended, Al Shamal had overcome their initial jitters and taken a 41-36 lead to lay the foundations of their victory. Al Arabi produced a seven-point scoring streak in the third quarter but Al Shamal saw off that testing period to extend their lead to nine points (60-51) with the final period remaining.
In the final 10 minutes, however, Al Arabi failed to get going thanks to Al Shamal stepping up their defence and scored only 10 points. Al Shamal, on the other hand, poured in 14 and sealed victory by 13 points.
Mildon Ambres was the top scorer for Al Shamal with 25 points, 15 of which came from the three-point mark. Faris Avdic scord 19 with a trio of three-pointers and Kamal Hachad chipped in with 15.
In the second match of the day, Ronald Rembert poured in 41 points and Charles Abouo scored 36 to power Al Khor to a 107-87 win over Al Ahli.
The duo did the bulk of the scoring for Al Khor, who led 28-18, 54-39 and 84-63 respectively after the first three quarters to kill off the contest. For Al Ahli, Lavalle Joyner Jnr scored 41 points, while Elhadj Seydou had 23 and Mustafa Elsadiq 16.
