An Omani innovator says that he has invented a set of 'security' glasses which he claims can be used as a weapon in threat situations. Hilal Salim al Siyabi says these glasses can be a boon for pilots and even for security personnel.

'I was heavily inspired by spy and action thrillers. The idea of designing glasses for flight security had been planned after watching a James Bond flick on plane hijacking.'

Siyabi's special glasses look like any other pair but he says they come equipped with tiny darts. 'The glasses are designed to shoot tiny tranquiliser darts up to a distance of 10m.'

Siyabi claims the darts are laser-guided. 'They have to find the correct target. The laser source is located on one of the lenses and can be activated stealthily by the wearer. The effect of the tranquiliser can last up to six hours. These glasses can be helpful for security personnel in the eventuality of say a plane hijacking' he said.

Siyabi added that 'because nobody in Oman was interested in my invention I got it registered in UAE.' The invention cost him RO250.

Siyabi says he loves inventing gadgets that have utility value. Some of his inventions he claims include a device that protects against car thefts an illuminated Q'uran and prayer mat a robotic personal teacher and a special pen for the blind. The headphones in this pen can help the blind wearer 'hear' the written words as he passes the pen over them.

Siyabi also claims to have invented a rocket-like propulsion device for cloud seeding and a sensor-equipped wheelchair for the disabled to prevent collision. The chair is 'wirelessly linked to a home device and works within a 5km range'. He claims it can guide the person if he is lost and also alerts family and friends. Siyabi says several of his inventions have been 'adopted' by a German university.

'One of my latest inventions is an app that can automatically delete a user's number from a WhatsApp group if he has not been active for three months after sending regular warning notifications.'

Siyabi's next he claims will 'surprise the world'. 'It will be in the field of energy efficiency.'
