(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar will host the second international conference to discuss the problems of the deaf and blind (dual disability), organised by the Doha-based Arab Union for the Blind.
The conference, to be held from March 6 to 9, aims at creating a proper climate for persons with disabilities for more interaction and partnership, and highlighting the role of Qatar and its leadership's attention to people with disabilities.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), president of the Arab Union of the Blind Dr Khalid Ali al-Nuaimi said nearly 100 representatives of civil society organisations and the governments of all Arab countries, in addition to 100 participants from Qatar representing all the relevant authorities, and experts from Norway, Spain, the US, New Zealand and the World Federation of the Deafblind (WFDB) are taking part in the
conference.
Al-Nuaimi said the conference will discuss a number of topics, including dual disability from the perspective of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, signed and ratified by Qatar.
He praised the efforts exerted by Qatar to improve the conditions of persons with disabilities in general, and those with visual impairment in
particular.
