Kuwait- Environ society tackles protection of marine life


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) has launched seminars, involving the diving team on themes such as "diving between knowledge and marines sciences" as well as programs on "green schools" for second term of the current scholastic year.

In a statement to KUNA on Saturday, KEPS Secretary General Abdel-Amir Al-Jazzaf said the seminars were part of the environmental awareness programs in the area of preserving the marine environment.

The workshop was launched by the society's diving team, with three lectures and a broader session on aquaculture of marine aquarium fi sh and coral reefs, he added. Meanwhile, Ahmad Al- Saffar, a lecturer, said he discussed, through his presentation, means of aquaculture of saltwater fish and coral reefs, and problems facing this field, underlining importance of being familiar with the ratio of calcium, magnesium and slat in water. He noted that there is a big possibility of successful use of the Gulf water in the aquaculture of coral reefs and aquarium fi sh after conducting certain treatments on water chemistry.

Abdul-Hamid Al-Qaed, another lecturer, stressed need to educate youth on means of aquaculture of sea creatures, for Gulf creatures require suitable atmospheres. On the "green schools" programs, Jenan Bahzad, director of the society's activities and programs, said about 50 schools registered in these activities, adding that the program in this session included 16 education axes. It also includes an axis on public health and environment which focuses on external factors affecting health of individuals and the society as well, she noted. Other topics included in the program were climate change and its effects, water rarity, purity of drinking water and environment protection law, she said.
