Malawi ties with Egypt continues to strengthen as they award 16 Academic Scholarships to Candidates

Handing over the scholarships Egyptian Ambassador to Malawi Maher El-Adawy said the scholarships were another sign of the brotherly partnerships between the two countries which would continue in the coming months and years.

'I am pleased to say that president Professor Peter Mutharika is happy with what we are doing. All the programmes are going well and Malawi is benefiting am advising the scholarship beneficiaries to represent Malawi as ambassadors to Egypt and all Africa' said El-Adawy.

Asked on the selection criteria the Ambassador explained that forms were sent to ministry of foreign affairs through its human resources for selection.

In his appreciative remarks Minister of Industry and Trade Joseph Mwanamvekha expressed hope that the candidates through the scholarships would be equipped with the necessary skills that would help to contribute to Malawi's development.

'This is not the first time Egypt has supported Malawi; it has supported us in more sectors than just the academic' acknowledged Mwanamvekha further adding that the Egyptians had also assisted in the countries agriculture and health sectors.

He also pointed out that Egypt's gesture resonated with Government's policy on expanding the minerals mining and textiles as some will be trained in this areas which will then contribute to boosting the economy of the country.

To the candidates the Minister advised them to behave in positive way knowing that they would be carrying the country's flag.

He also advised them to exercise humility and respect people of other cultural traditions than theirs.

The Egypt government started the capacity building programme in 2015 to help Malawians gain more experience and skills in heath mining security and peace and Industry and Trade just to mention a few.
